    Tansi! Greetings from the AGEN Transitional Board and Happy New Year!

    Over the past two years, AGEN has undertaken a governance renewal process in collaboration with the AGEN Membership and Contributing Partners. The recommendations from the membership at the 2008 Annual Conference were;

    • the Steering Committee change to an elected board process with fixed terms;
    • to improve accountability mechanisms with all stakeholders; and,
    • to enhance communication with our membership.

    In moving to address these issues, the AGEN Board’s accomplishments to date are:

    • created the AGEN Transitional Board (title changed from Steering Committee to Board)
    • developed a draft Terms of Reference document; and,
    • planning for an election process.

    Portfolios have changed to Committees which include the following:

    1. Administration
    2. Communications
    3. Pikiskwewak Speakers Bureau
    4. Governance and Policy (former Partnership, Relationship Building & Networking)
    5. Conference Planning
    6. Cultural (former Culture & Education)

    The 2009 AGEN Annual Conference will take place in Saskatoon on September 21-23, 2009. At the conference, the first annual election process will be held to select a number of board members.

    More details regarding the election process and draft Terms of Reference will be provided to the membership prior to the 2009 Annual Conference.

    The AGEN Transitional Board and I continue to work diligently on revitalizing the network and governance structure. We greatly appreciate your patience and support and we look forward to a very successful new year.

    Sincerely,
    Eunice Tanner
    AGEN Manager
